Assessment of Water Quality of Shatt al Arab River in north of Basra

The present study was aimed to ecological evolution for the north part of Shatt Al Arab River, by using water quality index (WQI, Canadian Model) because efficiency this method volutes fresh and determinate different uses. This has been done through period between December, 2012 November, 2013; samples were collected monthly during low tide, three stations have chosen, first one near Hartha area, second station area third Saeed Ali Noor Bridge. results showed that temperature ranged 13.8 ºC – 37 dissolved solids 100—1670 mg/l, , salinity range 0.6-2.5 ‰, oxygen 5.7-10.7 hardness value 500-1120 mg magnesium ions 35-93 nitrite 3.5-15 μg nitrogen atom-nitrate/l, phosphate 0.05-0.5 phosphor atom-phosphate /l, phosphorous 158-536 number faucal bacterial colon 21-495 CFU/100ml. Water values (WQI) all stations, 47-67, these classified (Fair) fourth (Marginal) categories. Classification fair marginal stations.
